Hey everyone! It's so great here at the MTC! We've been learning so much
and it's just fantastic. We've been learning a lot about prayer and the
Book of Mormon and how they help in conversion. It's so great to learn it
all myself and be able to try to teach it. I did say try because my
companion and I are having hard times trying to actually teach the lesson.
We get so caught up trying to get to know the person and then mixxing up
doctrine into it the it all just comes out in a jumble. We've had five
appointments (four people, one person twice) with our "progressing
investigators" and we've only done okay in about two of them. The thing
that really helped in the two that worked out was when we bore our
testimonies of what we were attempting to teach. The spirit is what worked
then and it was a great experience.
So in the MTC there are two zones, the Hinckley zone and the Kimball zone.
In each zone there is three or four different districts. I'm in the Kimball
zone and in the Nephi district. In my district is me, my companion, Elder
Allred and Elder Dowdle (They're also in my room), Elder Yost and Elder
Mabjaia (Mozambique, awesome accent, awesome spirit), Sister Tiito and
Sister Pink, and Sister Chan and Sister Cunningham. It's a really good
group and we do have pretty good discussions about gospel topics because
all the study, companion, personal, and district is done in our district
room. Sometimes though we forget to keep the spirit and talk about candy,
experiences, back home, the teachers, accents, and just about anything.
It's funny because Elder Yost is one of the most knowledgable but he's also
the one that likes to talk and jokes around instead of studying and since
I'm usually the one he starts joking with (I'll explain..) it gets the
whole class into the joking. We're across the room from each other and
because him and I have inside jokes it just makes the district laugh. We
call each other "Old Sport" because the Great Gatsby is the last movie we
both saw and we both try to talk in English accents. His is absolutely
horrible and he mixes it with American which makes it hilarious but mine is
actually really coming along! All the Americans say it sounds the best but
then when I use it on the teachers they laugh and say it sounds Morrocan
hahaha it's awesome. Everyone is really cool and even though we have
moments were we clash, it's going well. We're all still adjusting. One of
the hard things is that Elder Mabjaia, Sister Tiito, and Sister Chan are
all trying to learn english and things get jumbled and we talk to fast for
them to understand.
The weather is absolutely the best. It's almost always overcast and rains
off and on. I love it and it's a nice cool breeze. It makes me sad that I
get stuck in a classroom all day. We're all gettting excited to go tracting
so we can be outside and put what we've learned to use.
The food is THE BEST. I've been eating so much haha but I've been doing
exchanges with Elder Allred and he pushes me to workout hard which is good.
We actually just got back from taking a shopping trip to "Asda" which is
their Walmart hah and it was pretty fun! We all were looking around and
trying to find things fast because we didn't have much time. They have
suits for £20 which is great because a lot of the missionaries only have
one suit. Anyway. I've taken some pictures and I'll take more later on so
I'll make sure and send them next week if I don't get the chance to today.
A favorite scripture at the moment to use for teaching is Alma 5:45-47. I
think it's a great scripture to show how you have to have patience and real
intent to gain your testimony.
Sorry a lot of this is jumbled, we don't get much time for really
anything.. But we're going to the temple after lunch today and I just can't
wait for that. It's been such a spiritual experience here and I love it.
